The Ontario G1 knowledge test is the first step toward getting your driver's licence in Ontario. Administered by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO), the test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions — 20 on road signs and 20 on rules of the road. You need to answer at least 32 out of 40 (80%) correctly to pass and receive your G1 licence.
The test is taken on a computer at a DriveTest Centre. There is no time limit, so read each question carefully. If you are unsure of an answer, it is better to skip it and come back rather than rush. The computer will flag unanswered questions before you submit.
